I cannot help admiring this brilliant artwork (collage covered by transparent plastic) created by Nancy Scali, Claremont, CA, USA. This mail art masterpiece was exhibited among the works of "Alyonka - Sputnik - Reloaded" mai art show, arranged in October 2008 in The Museum of Fine Arts, Yoshkar-Ola.

Comments:
wow. i like your blog..and especially the art. But i don't understand? What is Alyonka?

Thanks for your interest, Reena!

Alyonka is the name of a little girl. In 1966 her portrait appeared on a chocolate wrap and has been used till today.

The image of Alyonka chocolate girl has become one of the symbols of Russia (like Kremlin, Sputnik, Matroshkas, caviar, etc.).

In 2005 Alyonka became known to mail artists around the world. Join them creating an artwork with this nice image!

Thank you for this info. I don't think we have this kind of chocolate here so I'm not familiar with the girl's image. Her face makes me feel sad, and I don't know why. The artworks are nice though.
